27 Pagkatapos ng mga bagay na ito, si Jesus ay umalis at nakita niya ang isang maniningil ng buwis na ang pangalan ay Levi na nakaupo sa tanggapan ng buwis. Sinabi ni Jesus sa kaniya, “Sumunod ka sa akin.”28 Kaya iniwanan niya ang lahat at tumindig at sumunod sa kaniya.29 At si Levi ay naghanda ng isang malaking piging sa kaniyang bahay para kay Jesus, at naroroon ang lubhang maraming maniningil ng buwis at iba pang nakaupong kasalo nila.30 At ang kanilang mga eskriba at ang mga Fariseo ay nagbulung-bulungan laban sa kaniyang mga alagad na sinasabi, “Bakit kayo kumakain at umiinom kasama ng mga maniningil ng buwis at ng mga makasalanan?”31 Ngunit si Jesus ay sumagot na sinabi sa kanila, “Sila na mga walang sakit ay hindi nangangailangan ng manggagamot kundi sila na mga maysakit.32 Hindi ako naparito upang tawagin ang mga matuwid kundi ang mga makasalanan sa pagsisisi.”

13 He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them.14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.15 And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 9
9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
